In a move supporting Hindu temple in Pakistan, the Pakistani Supreme Court (SC) recently raised a serious concern over missing of main idols of Hindu gods in the world-famous Katas Raj temple located in country’s Punjab Province.

Pakistan’s SC raised the issue as part of its hearing over drying up of the ages-old sacred pool in the temple because of ground water depletion due to cement factories operating in the area.

Terming this as the province administration’s deep negligence towards the world Hindu community, SC asked, “What impression of Pakistan would they have if they do not find idols in the temple?”

SC sought clarification from the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) over the missing of idols in the temple.

With this situation in place, devotees visiting the temple ended up in bringing their own idols to worship and offer rituals.

With regard to the sacred pool, a three-judge bench by the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has reportedly asked one of the cement factories, responsible for the damage, to close tube wells that are affecting the pool.

The temple that has its history dating back to 600 AD is the world’s most famous Hindu pilgrimage and a sacred site.

The temple complex, built around the pond, has two temples of Lord Hanuman and Lord Sriram. The pond is believed to have been formed by the tears of Lord Shiva upon his grief for the loss of his wife Goddess Sati.
